Nellie

I have spoken about my friend, Nellie, from PE before. We still keep in contact every day and very much look forward to our weekend together at the end of May. Today Nellie did the most thoughtful thing anyone has ever done for me. Well, actually she did it on Saturday already. The sneaky bugger! She fished out my address from Rudi and sent me a gift.

The instructions were for them to deliver the gift tomorrow, but for some reason they delivered it today. Luckily I was at home. At first I did not answer the door...a bit freaked out by the man with the walkie talkie outside my door (and I'm in my PJ's)...but they called me to tell me why they were knocking...

When I saw the package I was very surprised. I knew Nellie was up to something...but I had no idea she was up to this!

A beautiful quilt her mother made for me...covers my double bed!

It's reversable!

Beautiful butterfly and flower patterns. I <3 butterflies! (obviously Nellie knew)

In the package there was a letter which read as follows:

Dear acidicice

This is a very small something made with loads of love by my mom and chosen with love by me.

This is what we call a "comfort or pamper quilt" in our home and everyone has their own. So we thought it was about time for you to have one of your own.

We tried to choose colours that are bright and cheerful and colours that I kind of think will "suite" you.

Quilts are to snuggle under when you have "off" days or ill days or days just meant for cuddling. I hope you wil think of us in PE when you cuddle under "this one" think of it as a big hug from me when I can't be there.

The best part about it is that it will be with you to cuddle with on the 18th and many other days both happy and sad!

Thinking of you and sending you HEAPS of love

Nellie

That is special. I called her before I opened it to hear if I was allowed to open it since it had arrived a day early, she consented. I cried and cried! It is SUCH a beautiful gesture. I tried to read the letter to Rudi on the phone, but started crying again.

So special.

Thank you, Nellie and family. I'm pretty sure everyone contributed (I know your dad put the tape on the box!) Goliath...please look after this special friend of mine.

*sending much love back to PE*

Now to get Amber to give me my quilt back...

This and That

The baby movements seem to have died down a bit now. I still feel it every now and then, but it's not nearly as it's 'supposed' to be yet. I think it's still a bit early for kicking. It just feels like the baby is stretching. I'm feeling a lot better than I initially was. I still feel nauseous sometimes, but not all the time. I am also eating better which is a relief. I still don't enjoy food like I used to...but that may really not be a bad thing. I still constantly have a horrid taste in my mouth and I've been chowing Mint Imperials to alleviate that.

It's Sarah's 21st on Friday. I'm looking forward to seeing how all the arrangements turn out, but have no idea what to buy for her! It's the first time she's celebrating a birthday since we've been friends and it's a big one. She's given me ideas of things she wants/needs so I have quite a broad scope. I really hope she likes whatever I choose.

I had a chest of drawers which was seriously falling apart. Somehow the drawers wouldn't fit into the shell anymore and kept collapsing. The entire structure was basically useless. I didn't know of anyone who could fix it and was going to throw the whole thing away. We've been pricing a new set for quite a while and they seem to go for an average of about R2 000. Eventually I chatted to my grandfather about it and he told me I should take it through to his brother. He chatted to his brother and he agreed to have a go at it as carpentry is a hobby of his. Over the weekend he let us know that he was done and we could come pick it up.

The chest of drawers looks as good as new and all the drawers fit in rather nicely! He said it wasn't too big a job. I bought him a box of chocolate as a small gesture of appreciation (I ran this by my grandfather first), turns out he's diabetic. Next time I'll ask my grandmother about his family, she seems to know more than him.

I received a formal invitation to My Evil Mother's wedding. She wants me to take photos. I agreed to take pictures for her. She can consider it my gift.

Murder By Hormones

Rudi is really lucky that he was not standing at the top of the stairs last night. I would have pushed him. Where do I start?

Before Rudi left for darts last night (he plays in a league) Amber brought me a gift. A gift in the form of a bleeding little field mouse. She promptly dropped it on the bed and continued to chase the poor thing around. Once I realized she was really chasing something I jumped up screaming. Rudi rescued the poor thing, much to Amber's dismay.

I was feeling really sick last night and took new bedding out with every intention of putting it on the bed, but I never really felt up to it. I noticed that the housekeeper had removed the bucket I keep next to the bed for emergencies and send Rudi an SMS to please bring the bucket up when he got home. The bucket was in the garage and I had already showered and gotten into my PJ's when I made the discovery.

I managed to doze off at about 21:30 and was thoroughly enjoying my sleep. Rudi came ambling in at almost 23:00 (which is normal). He came up the stairs - a bit merry - and woke me up to ask me where the bucket was. I mumbled that it was in the garage and proceeded to try and sleep. He then woke me up again to ask me 'What's this on the bed?' - referring to the bedding I had taken out and not put on the bed. The light was on and he was perfectly capable of seeing what was on the bed. When I didn't answer him he repeated the question. Enraged I got up since I had realized that I needed to pee at this point.

He then HOPPED into bed. My stomach was aching and I was feeling really ill. It felt like he was jumping up and down on the bed next to me. I voiced my dismay - at which point he was fed up with my bitching and finally he let me go to sleep. He also left the bucket downstairs. I don't know why he bothered getting it.

At that very moment I really would have seriously injured him had I not felt incapacitated myself.

Co-incidentally I had to get up at 3:30 again to pee. Pregnant women are supposed to start urinating more frequently around 5 weeks, but I have been getting away with it. I think it has begun.

Peeing and Puking. That's me from now on I guess.
