Weekend and Politics

Our weekend wasn't too bad. Had a braai on Friday night. Everyone had a good time it seemed. I drank an entire bottle of red wine, but seemed to be the only sober person there.

On Saturday we had a nice lie in. Slept till 10am - something we're almost incapable of doing under normal circumstances. I'm sure the late night on Saturday night contributed. Saturday was quite a relaxed day, until my grandfather called and asked us to come over. So we had to peel ourselves off the couch, shower, get dressed and everything. What a mission. Especially since winter seemed to arrive this weekend and it was quite chilly.

Sunday morning was church as usual. Rudi couldn't be bothered and was still under the covers when I got home. I decided to take off my fancy clothes and creep in with him. What a pleasure. Yesterday was Rudi's parents 40th wedding anniversary so we went to a restaurant called The Quarter Deck in Grand West Casino. The outside of the restaurant is shaped like the deck of a ship - hence the name. They have a buffet lunch for R150.00 a head. I don't think it's really worth the money for me, but Rudi makes up for it. He had quite a few plates of mussels and prawns. I cannot tell you whether or not the seafood is nice (as I don't eat seafood), but you could definitely get your money's worth. As we didn't have any money to go Rudi's parents paid for us. That was very sweet of them.

Turns out my overtime worked has not been approved since March. I have over 20 hours worth of overtime that I should have gotten the end of April. Fail. Now I'll have to wait for it till the end of May. I was really looking forward to having some extra money at the end of this month, perhaps to have my hair done, but it seems that is not going to happen. May is a bonus month for us, so I will have over enough money next month anyway - and I'm pretty sure I'm going to get screwed on tax. Fortunately we receive our annual increase this month and that might just help a little bit (I hope).

Wednesday this week is election day in South Africa. I can't wait to go and make my X. It's the first time I have ever registered to vote (yeah, I'm bad, I know) and it's going to be a very exciting election. I am normally apathetic towards politics, but South African citizens have an opportunity in this election to change the country. I certainly hope that the result of this election will be positive for South Africa and that a new era of politics will begin...

It's weekend...and I want to sleep

I’m so looking forward to sleeping late tomorrow. I would stay in bed the whole day if my schedule allowed. Rudi organized a braai or something with the people that my grandparents stay with. Willie grows his own chillies and reckons he can eat the hottest food that he can make. Rudi, being from Durban (famous for it’s large Indian population and the curries they make) told him he could eat whatever he could dish. Willie just loves a challenge so he’s cooking up something extra hot for the men and his wife is making hamburgers or something for us. It sounds nice…I just hope I have an appetite and that I can eat.

The Baba Indaba is also happening this weekend. Rudi and I would like to check it out and look at all the nifty baby products so that we can have an idea of what’s available and how much these things cost. We are by no means under any kind of illusion that we’re going to get away cheaply. Babies cost mountains of money. Perhaps we’ll get lucky and they’ll hand out samples. I love free stuff!

A whole lot of people from work are going to Moyo this evening. Moyo is LOVELY and they have GREAT cocktails. One of my first entries on this blog had pictures of a trip to Moyo with Sarah and Brad. I don’t know if it would be a good idea to go. I could always drink virgin cocktails, but I seem to be coming down with a cold and the winter nip is still in the air.

I just want to snuggle up with my Stephen King book and read. I’m on the last book of the Dark Tower series. It’s been a long journey with the characters of this book and I’m kind of sad that it’s coming to an end. I am dying to know what happens though so I’m not going to stop reading for the sake of prolonging the inevitable.

I’m super tired today. I am longing for my bed and a nap. Some hot chocolate with marshmallows wouldn’t be turned down. What? A girl can dream!

Winter

It seems that winter is upon us! Last night gale force winds were howling outside making it difficult to sleep. It sounded like the house was going to blow down! It was also super chilly when we awoke this morning. When I opened the car door the wind blew it shut, as if sharing my sentiment about not going to work.

One thing I've been worried about is not having any winter shoes. A colleague told me that she found boots that will fit us and I convinced Sarah to come shopping with me. Sarah is a great dresser (and of course has a body to die for) and I wanted her opinion. Sarah is also a great shopper (not in the bargain hunting sense) and I ended up buying TWO pairs of shoes! They were expensive, but I wear shoes for a long time generally so I'm sure I'll get alot of use out of them.

The first pair of boots I bought are brown:

The second pair are super sexy black heels:

I <3 my new shoes! I don't usually wear heels, but I made a decision a while ago to try and dress less frumpy and to become used to wearing shoes with heels again.

I also bought myself a new pair of black pants and a stunning white collared shirt. I really wanted a nice white shirt for church as I've had to borrow a white shirt from my grandmother and aunt when we have special services. Come to think of it I've spent a lot of money on clothes this month. No matter, I deserve it!

I think I'll wear my sexy black heels, black pants and white shirt to work tomorrow. It's just nice to dress up some times!
